There’s a difference between layering for the sake of weather and layering with purpose. In October, we start reaching for the pieces that have earned their place - not just because they’re warm, but because they work. In the field, at the market, on the school run.
These are the layers that stay.
Fall fieldwear is a study in quiet utility. The best pieces disappear as you wear them - moving with you, not against you. They’re the ones you don’t have to think about while handling dogs, lining up on the peg, or loading the back of the car before sunrise.
At Isabelle Hunter, our layering philosophy is rooted in two things: comfort and continuity. We believe in building a wardrobe that supports the way you move through the season - one layer at a time.
Here’s what that often looks like:
1. A vest that earns its place. It should shape without restricting. Hold warmth without bulk. Our field vests are built to contour through the waist and free up your arms - whether you're raising a gun or reaching for the thermos.
2. A shirt you’d wear on or off the field. We’ve always said our pieces should work hard without looking like they do. The right cotton or brushed flannel shirt gives structure, breathability, and a bit of quiet polish.
3. A final layer, if needed, that still lets you move. We favour jackets and gilets that layer cleanly — no stiff collars, no unnecessary hardware, no distractions. Just warmth and balance.
4. And the smallest details - done well. Pockets placed with purpose. Fastenings that can be worked with cold hands. High armholes, natural fibers, strong seams. Subtle things. But the kind that change everything.
As the air cools and the rhythm steadies, let your layers do the same. Choose pieces that feel like a second skin, not a seasonal swap.
Our next seasonal release, Field to Fireside, is built on this very philosophy. Launching in November - stay tuned for the official launch date & sign up to the Field & Femme Collective to shop first.
